I first heard this song as a young child in the mid-1970s when it was still immensely popular over here in East Asia. Just got her CD, ''The Very Best of MGM Recordings" which has this and 22 other songs.

Thank you for this, I'm so pleased that I grew up in the time where music was pure and beautiful, I've always loved this lady's voice, this is just priceless
Roland Pratt (1 year ago)
Don't remember this from 1967 for some reason, but loved it when it was reissued in the 70s.

Oh how lucky we are to have Youtube, to remind us all of what was ... sadly the world has lost its way ... but ... at least we can listen back and feel a calmness and warm feeling from music as it reminds of us of life when it was calmer and more peaceful but I have the years behind me to realize what was ... yes Peter Woods you say is so true.

That was my favorite song in 1966! I don't remember the name of that album, but it has some great songs on it.

How can it be excellent quality when there's talking in some foreign language at the beginning of the song and the recording is in mono?

Great songs i listened to the growing up. You could'nt write songs like these in this day & age. The pc feminist mob would have a field day.
Richard Keeble (2 years ago)
Great song, great singer. Knocks spots of the over produced, manufactured, repetitive rubbish that tortures us these days.
Pete Woods (3 years ago)
Wasn't the music of the fifties and early 60s so good. Just close your eyes and you can almost believe the worlds a happy place.
Nan Fagan (2 months ago)
In my opinion, popular music started going down the tubes in the late 70's. That's when I went back to the music of my childhood; which was the 60's.
Ken Lee (5 months ago)
Awww. Music from the 1920s to 1940s were superb too... How could one not like the vocal harmonies of the Boswell Sisters, the baritone and unmistakable voice of Bing Crosby, the many fabulous jazz bands, the big bands with their songbirds, proto rock'n'roll etc.

Pete Woods The 60s were the greatest decade for music. 70s close
Helen Telehowski (10 months ago)
Pete Woods I so agree with you. Songs could tell a person's life story.
James Sullivan (3 years ago)
I like this song of hers better than Born a Woman which is just a stupid song.  But I like this one and am glad I was able to find her on you tube and the am radio station I listen to.
Nan Fagan (3 years ago)
I was in fourth grade when this song first came out. This isn't a bad song.
Baskerville22 (3 years ago)
I always think of 2 other songs that came out around the same time, when I hear this. They are Tar & Cement (Verdelle Smith) and Angel of the Morning ( Merrilee Rush)

The single girl all alone in a great big town The single girl gets so tired of love lettin' her down The life's unreal and the people are phony And the nights can get so lonely The single girl needs a sweet lovin' man to lean on I'm a single girl wonderin' if love could be passin' me by I'm a single girl and I know all about men and their lies Nobody loves me 'cause nobody knows me Nobody takes the time to go slowly The single girl needs a sweet lovin' man to lean on I gotta make my own way There's rent I gotta pay I need a night-time love To get me through the day I'm a single girl all alone in a great big town I'm a single girl and I get so tired of love lettin' me down But there's a man I've yet to know Waiting somewhere I've yet to go Someday I'll have a sweet loving man to lean on The single girl needs a sweet lovin' man to lean on The single girl needs a sweet lovin' man to lean on Read more: Sandy Posey - A Single Girl Lyrics | MetroLyrics

Thank you, Mr Law, in the autumn of my life, catching up with long-forgotten recesses of my memory, it is a great pleasure to recall the great artists of yesteryear. Of course, there will ALWAYS be continuity, as long as there is life and a God, but artists of this calibre are rare today, even with the exceptional people such as Enya, Loreeta, Ryan O'Shaughnessy, Amy Conelly, but these are just a few of the lovely reasons to believe in "God" - given talents... Good luck , well done !
